Contracts for Consultants Program

Tomorrow night (November 18th) I will be giving a presentation for the IEEE-CNSV on Consulting Contracts. The program is free, and not at all limited to members of IEEE, or even to technical consultants.

We'll be dissecting a consulting agreement and talking about how to build a contract as well as what to look for when reviewing a client's contract.

This has been a bit of a daunting project for me. Contract law takes a whole year of law school. Remember the scene in Paper Chase where Timothy Bottoms' character is so terrified in class that he runs out of the classroom and gets sick? Well the class he ran out of was Contracts. So teaching much about contracts in 65 minutes or so is ... well daunting.

The thing about writing or reviewing contracts is that it's more of an art than a science. So it's very difficult, even with unlimited time to say what should or should not be in a particular contract, nevertheless contracts in general.

But not being one to shy away from a challenge, I'll do my best to explain as much as possible tomorrow night.
