BlogWorld A Blast
On a more positive front, my husband and I went to BlogWorld in Las Vegas last week. We had a blast. My husband got to meet a lot of bloggers he's only spoken with online or on the phone. And I got to meet a bunch of really bright, interesting people.
What was also interesting is that it wasn't at all just a bunch of bloggers getting together to meet in person. There were many many companies with new technologies and business opportunities for blogging. Clearly the blog is expanding to include audio and video, as well as intelligent linking. Some big companies were there (Yahoo, Microsoft, Southwest Airlines), as well as a lot of small niche companies and start ups.
Absent were representatives of main stream media - the big TV and radio networks, and especially print media. Although many newspapers now have blogs as part of their online offerings, they were not there to learn about the newest technologies, or to share knowledge with other bloggers (and some of the bloggers there get more traffic than the New York Times' website.)
I will definitely be there next year.
