Bravo for Business with California Fire Information

I have been terribly MIA, but I wanted to point out a wonderful example of a business creating something really useful... and free. And of a business - public entity cooperation.

This is a California Fire Information Map which clearly shows the area of the fires and evacuations. Click on the little yellow pin and you get a good legend, although clicking on any of the icon makes it really clear, really quickly what each symbol means.

Each entry is clear, concise and has a date and time stamp so you know how fresh it is.

This map is maintained by the local PBS radio station in San Diego.

Combined, this gives good, un-editorialized, useful information. No lurid photos, no person in the street interviews, no finger pointing or politics. Just useful information.

Bravo Google and Bravo KPBS.
